Save the Children International (SCI) a Non-governmental organisation that encourages universal healthcare coverage and children’s protection has tasked government on policies that will ensure improved healthcare delivery to achieve the universal healthcare coverage in the country.
Area Operational Manager, Save the Children Lagos and Cross Rivers, Nwamaka Efionu, made this call at a two-day Advocacy Strategy Review meeting by her organisation in Lagos.
Efionu said: “We want to have a nation, where we can achieve universal health coverage and this can only be attained, when there is well-motivated and skilled workforce in primary healthcare systems in Lagos and the nation.
“For this to happen, systems, infrastructures and strategies, among others, should be in place. Save the Children has worked tirelessly for almost a century to secure children’s rights. However, we want to work with government to achieve universal health coverage.”
She urged parents to train their children properly and support them, so that they can achieve their dreams. “Issues of child’s survival, protection and development rest so much on their parents. So, they should play their role to ensure their children are not abused.”
